Joey Logano has once again proven that three championships are something special.

As the driver of Team Penske’s No. 22 car, he had a strong finish to the 2024 season, ultimately securing his third NASCAR Cup Series Championship. With this achievement, Logano joins an exclusive group of just 10 drivers who have won three Cup titles.

“The trophies look great lined up together, and it’s definitely a cool feeling,” Logano said. “But at the same time, I still want more.”

Although he didn’t specify what would satisfy him, winning a fourth championship would place him among NASCAR’s all-time greats. Only four drivers—Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt, and Richard Petty—have claimed four or more championships.

“It’s common to see championship-winning teams struggle the following season in any sport. So, how do you prevent that? How do you keep the team motivated?” Logano said. “Last year’s success was great, but it’s in the past. Once we return to Daytona for the new season, everyone starts from zero again.”

Currently, Logano sits 11th in the Cup Series standings with 160 points. He has led 247 laps—88 more than any other driver—but has yet to secure a victory this season. However, slow starts don’t faze him. Last year, he didn’t earn his first win until late June at Nashville.

As the Cup Series heads to Martinsville, Logano is eager for the competition.

“I love racing there. There’s always some drama, and someone leaves angry. The fans are right there to let you hear about it,” he said.

If the loudest cheers at Martinsville come from Victory Lane, Logano will know he’s done his job.

The race at Martinsville is set to begin this weekend at 3 p.m.
