Recent NASCAR legal drama has largely focused on the ongoing dispute involving 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports, which began after both teams declined to sign the updated charter agreement late last season.
In response, the two organizations filed a lawsuit against NASCAR and the France family, accusing them of violating antitrust laws. There were concerns that these teams might lose their chartered status for the 2025 season.
However, a judge ruled in their favor, allowing them to retain their charter status and also use additional charters they had acquired from Stewart-Haas Racing following the 2024 season — despite NASCAR’s attempt to block those transactions. Still, the legal process continues to drag on with little clear resolution.
Meanwhile, Rick Ware Racing has entered the legal fray, pushing back against Legacy Motor Club’s lawsuit and claiming it misrepresents the truth — sparking yet another legal conflict centered around NASCAR’s charter system.
As things stand, Rick Ware Racing now only fields the No. 51 Ford full-time for Cody Ware, scaling back from also running the No. 15. Over at RFK Racing, the team has expanded to three full-time entries, adding the No. 60 Ford for Ryan Preece this past offseason to join Brad Keselowski’s No. 6 and Chris Buescher’s No. 17.
