Motorsports fans get a glimpse of the ABB NASCAR EV Prototype in new promotional video
Fans of motorsports recently got another look at the groundbreaking ABB NASCAR EV Prototype, which appeared in a promotional video ahead of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race in Miami.
The car was featured in a crossover advertisement that highlighted technological advancements shared between Formula E and NASCAR. First unveiled at the Chicago Street Course last year, the prototype marked a significant milestone as the first fully electric vehicle in NASCAR’s history. It was developed through a joint effort involving Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, and NASCAR engineers.
In this latest video—titled “Electrifying Miami – ABB Formula E vs ABB EV NASCAR” and shared on YouTube by ABB—the EV NASCAR car is shown going head-to-head on the track with a Formula E Gen3 EVO car. The commercial includes appearances by actors Sung Kang and Emelia Hartford, alongside Formula E drivers Jake Dennis and Dan Ticktum, as reported by the Daily Express U.S.
NASCAR’s senior VP and chief racing development officer, John Probst, previously spoke about the EV project, emphasizing the importance of staying ahead of rapid technological changes.
“We want to lead the way in shaping the future of racing,” he said. “It’s essential that we’re proactive and aligned with our manufacturer partners to ensure relevance and innovation.”
Riley Nelson, NASCAR’s head of sustainability, sees the EV project as a symbol of the sport’s push toward a more sustainable future.
“To us, sustainability starts with environmental responsibility,” she explained. “That begins with education—helping people understand our mission to reduce NASCAR’s carbon footprint.”
She stressed that sustainability must be a collective effort across the industry.
“It’s not just up to the IMPACT or sustainability team,” she said. “It requires a mindset shift across departments, from engineers to business units, to embed sustainable thinking into every part of the sport. That’s how real, lasting change happens.”
