Easter surprise from NASCAR champion earns him hero status once again
Greg Biffle, 55, has once again won over hearts in Black Mountain, North Carolina—this time by taking to the skies to deliver joy instead of emergency aid.
Biffle, already celebrated for his daring helicopter rescues during last year’s devastating Hurricane Helene, returned to the region this Easter weekend with a more lighthearted mission. Using his personal helicopter, he and a friend dressed as the Easter Bunny dropped over 1,000 colorful eggs onto a field packed with excited children and families.
“We really took Easter to new heights,” Biffle joked in the video posted on his YouTube channel, which shows the airborne egg drop in support of the Valley Hope Foundation.
The non-profit organization, which helped organize the event, has been at the forefront of rebuilding efforts in communities still recovering from Hurricane Helene’s destruction in fall 2024. The storm left countless residents without basic necessities like food, water, and power.
“This is the first time I’ve been up flying here since the hurricane,” Biffle said in the video. “It feels good to be back in the air for a fun reason.”
Biffle’s selfless efforts during the hurricane earned him the National Motorsports Press Association’s Myers Brothers Award, and Darlington Raceway President Josh Harris later honored him as the Honorary Pace Car Driver for the Goodyear 400 Cup Series race.
Reflecting on the hurricane rescues, Biffle told Fox Sports’ Mike Joy: “I got a call that someone needed help, needed to be airlifted, and I just thought—if not me, then who?” He added that the scene from the air had stunned him: “Once I got up there and saw it… I couldn’t believe it.”
Now, with Easter eggs instead of emergency gear, Biffle continues to prove that heroism can take many forms—even one wrapped in chocolate.
