Kyle Larson spun out but still managed to win the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race on Friday night at Homestead. He is aiming to win all three NASCAR races at the track this weekend.
Only Kyle Busch has ever won all three national NASCAR series races at the same track in a single weekend, achieving the feat in 2010 and 2017 at Bristol.
This marks Larson’s third attempt at racing in all three NASCAR series at Homestead.
Larson stated that his main goal for the weekend is to win all three races.
After spinning out, Larson initially thought his chances of sweeping the weekend were over but managed to recover and win the race.
He acknowledged that winning all three races requires starting with the first victory and expressed confidence in his chances for the rest of the weekend.
Larson noted that Austin Hill, last year’s Xfinity Series winner at Homestead, would be a strong competitor. However, he believes his cars will be competitive as long as he avoids hitting the wall.
He emphasized that his Cup Series car should be strong and admitted that the Truck race was the most uncertain challenge for him due to his limited experience, shorter race lengths, and aggressive competition.
Larson’s race took a turn when he made contact with Layne Riggs while battling in the top five, causing him to spin and bring out a caution on lap 91 of the 134-lap event.
He admitted to misjudging his run, which led to the incident.
After restarting 22nd with 40 laps remaining, Larson made a strong comeback, aided by Corey Heim’s truck experiencing power issues despite leading most of the race.
Heim believed his truck was the fastest in the field and had been controlling the race with a comfortable lead before experiencing power failures.
Despite briefly regaining control and overtaking competitors again, Heim struggled to maintain a rhythm due to recurring mechanical problems.
Ultimately, Heim was confident in his truck’s speed but frustrated by the technical issues that disrupted his performance.
Layne Riggs finished in second place, followed by Tyler Ankrum in fourth and Daniel Hemric in fifth. Ross Chastain rounded out the top six.
