Michael Jordan may have left the NBA behind, but his competitive spirit remains strong.
As a co-owner of 23XI Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series, the 62-year-old basketball icon channels his drive for victory into auto racing. However, his team and Front Row Motorsports are currently caught up in a legal battle with NASCAR.
Last October, both teams filed an antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR and its CEO, Jim France. In response, NASCAR countersued 23XI Racing, Front Row Motorsports, and Curtis Polk—Jordan’s long-time advisor—earlier this March, as reported by Dustin Long of NBC Sports.
While the legal dispute unfolds, Jordan took a trip to Saint Lucia. A Facebook post from the island nation’s tourism authority showed him posing for a photo with a customs officer at the airport.
It’s unclear why the six-time NBA champion traveled to Saint Lucia, but it’s likely he was simply on vacation.
A 14-time NBA All-Star and five-time MVP, Jordan officially retired from basketball after the 2002-03 season.
Following his retirement, Jordan developed a friendship with Denny Hamlin, who frequently attended Charlotte Hornets games while Jordan was still involved with the team as an investor.
That connection eventually led to a business partnership, with Jordan and Hamlin launching 23XI Racing together in 2020.
