The NASCAR Xfinity Series returned to Rockingham Speedway on Saturday for the first time since 2004, delivering a chaotic and thrilling race filled with crashes and strategic fuel decisions. Nick Sanchez won Stage 1, while Dean Thompson took Stage 2. The race saw 15 cautions, 16 lead changes, and two red flags in the final 10 laps due to accidents.

Jesse Love of Richard Childress Racing initially crossed the finish line first after passing JR Motorsports driver Sammy Smith during the final overtime restart, earning what appeared to be his second win of the season. Notably, Smith had previously won the season opener at Daytona.

However, hours after the race, NASCAR made a significant announcement: Love’s No. 2 Chevrolet was disqualified after failing post-race inspection due to issues with the rear suspension. As a result, Smith was declared the official winner of the Rockingham race, marking his first victory of the season and the third of his Xfinity career.

The decision was a major shake-up, dropping Love to last place and costing him crucial regular season and playoff points. Richard Childress Racing can appeal the ruling, and if successful, Love would regain the win and points, while Smith would move back to second place.
