Jimmie Johnson’s Legacy Motor Club does not have a technical alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing, despite both teams now fielding Toyota cars in the NASCAR Cup Series. When Legacy Motor Club transitioned from Chevrolet to Toyota for the 2024 season, they chose not to form a partnership with Joe Gibbs Racing, which already has a technical alliance with 23XI Racing—the team co-owned by Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan.

The recent Toyota commercial titled “Toyota Gazoo Racing: Big 3” sparked some confusion about a possible alliance. However, the ad simply promotes Toyota’s three Cup Series teams under the Toyota Gazoo Racing brand and highlights their shared manufacturer affiliation.

Legacy Motor Club and Joe Gibbs Racing are connected only by their mutual relationship with Toyota. Joe Gibbs Racing has been with Toyota since 2008, while Legacy Motor Club made the switch in 2024 after previously running Chevrolets.

Currently, John Hunter Nemechek (No. 42) and Erik Jones (No. 43) drive for Legacy Motor Club. Joe Gibbs Racing fields Denny Hamlin (No. 11), Chase Briscoe (No. 19), Christopher Bell (No. 20), and Ty Gibbs (No. 54).
