Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s announcement that two-time Indy 500 champion Takuma Sato will be part of their 2025 driver lineup brings the total number of confirmed entries for the 109th running of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” to 34.
With the field limited to just 33 starters, Bump Day is officially back at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the third straight year — and there’s still a chance the entry list could swell to 35, making competition for a starting spot even tougher.
So who’s most at risk of missing the cut? Here are the top five drivers likely to be bumped — starting with Graham Rahal.
Graham Rahal
After being the only driver bumped in 2023, Rahal once again finds himself in a precarious position despite his team’s supposed “Indy Recovery Plan.
Last year, he was unexpectedly fighting for a spot against a backup Dale Coyne Racing car and 19-year-old rookie Nolan Siegel. Even Rahal dismissed the possibility during practice week — only to end up watching the race from the sidelines.
Despite once being in contention to win the 2020 and 2021 editions, Rahal’s team hasn’t shown the pace needed to inspire confidence for 2025. Simply qualifying could be an uphill climb yet again.
